Diethyl ethyl phosphonate, also known as flame retardant DEEP and Diethyl methyl phosphonate, is a new type of highly efficient organic phosphorus flame retardant. Since dimethyl methylphosphonate is used as a flame retardant, diethyl ethyl phosphonate is another new member of the flame retardant product series, and it is a promising new type of phosphorus-containing flame retardant. Diethyl ethyl phosphonate is widely used in epoxy resin, phenolic resin, polyester, polycarbonate, polyurethane, polyvinyl chloride, polyethylene, polypropylene, ABS resin, etc.

Diethyl ethyl phosphonate has the characteristics of low viscosity, suitable boiling point, good solubility, no halogen, and high phosphorus content. Its chemical stability makes it very stable in the two-component system of polyether polyol and isocyanate. Diethyl ethyl phosphonate is more suitable for flame retardant polymer products such as polyurethane flexible foam products, unsaturated polyester resins, and epoxy resins than traditional additive organic phosphorus flame retardants. Diethyl ethyl phosphonate is also a phosphorus-containing plasticizer, which has both flame retardant and plasticizing effects.

Diethyl ethyl phosphonate is widely used in various rigid polyurethane foams, including rigid foam formulations for various foaming systems. Its flame retardant efficiency is 1.5 to 2 times that of flame retardant TCPP. Diethyl ethyl phosphonate is also a highly effective viscosity reducing agent that improves the operability of water-foamed rigid foams and polyester rigid foam systems. It is not suitable for blending in isocyanate components, such as prepolymers, single-component foams.

Flame retardant effect

Soft polyurethane foam, because the weight per volume of the foam is relatively small, the specific surface area is large, the thermal conductivity is low, and it is easy to burn. Therefore, flame retardant DEEP needs to be added to the formulation before the soft polyurethane foam is molded. Flame retardant DEEP is a high phosphorus flame retardant. The oxygen index of products containing 17% flame retardant DEEP reaches 26.5, they totally meet the requirements of flame retardant.


  1. Diethyl ethyl phosphonate has high flame retardant efficiency and can impart good self-extinguishing or flame retardancy to composite materials.
  2. Diethyl ethyl phosphonate has good compatibility, can be compatible with composite materials and is easily dispersed.
  3. Diethyl ethyl phosphonate has a suitable decomposition temperature, that is, it does not decompose at the processing temperature of the composite material, but when the composite material is thermally decomposed, it can rapidly decompose to exert the flame retardant effect.
  4. Diethyl ethyl phosphonate is non-toxic or low-toxic, odorless, non-polluting, and does not generate toxic gases during the flame retardant process.
  5. When diethyl ethyl phosphonate is used in combination with composite materials, it does not reduce the mechanical properties, electrical properties, weather resistance and heat distortion temperature of the composite materials.
  6. Diethyl ethyl phosphonate has good durability, can be retained in composite products for a long time, and exerts its flame retardant effect.
