Medical sterilization

Chloroxylenol vs chlorhexidine

Chloroxylenol is a phenolic disinfectant. Phenolic disinfectants are acid compounds, which are weakly acidic and generally have a special aromatic odor. They are easily oxidized in the air, so care should be taken to avoid contact with alkaline substances during use.

Chlorhexidine belongs to the class of guanidine disinfectants. It is a cationic surfactant.
